after the election I told my husband yt people are finally feeling (to a far lesser extent) the fascism that so many black and brown people have always felt here. it's why it feels so uncomfortable.

I swear the book banning in Florida wasn’t targeting black children…. It was targeting white children. Growing up a bookworm as a white church girl in the south is the number 1 reason why I was able to deconstruct. I loved historical fiction. I read the whole section in the school library. When I was looking at the list of the ones they banned, they were all ones I read as a kid. Black kids are gonna get their history from elders and community members but I had to learn about it from books.

IMO, We never got rid of slavery the US just changed the laws to make it look legal - private prisons incarcerated a targeted group of people for free labor.
