Okay Kels, I thought that was going to be much worse. Years ago I was leading a meeting. Went to step over a phone cord to close the door, but tripped on the cord, and put my foot in the garbage can (after lunch…ick) to try to catch myself. The public relations manager jumped up to try to catch me from falling, but put his hands out onto my chest (yep, Mary and Kate were the stars of the show), meanwhile I ripped the phone cord out of the wall, disconnecting the conference call with our external legal counsel. To make matters worse, I did this all in front of my EVP, my boss, and the chief legal counsel for my organization. All men. The poor PR guy (sorry Robert) was so embarrassed. Everyone kind of froze. I just said sorry, and said I’m fine. Sorry Robert, let’s get started. I pulled my foot out of the leftover salad I stepped in, and dialled the external lawyer once I got the phone working. Now that is a level of embarrassment I wouldn’t wish on anyone. It did teach me to be much more deliberate with how I move, and the benefit of being able to roll with things.
