Honestly, as long as they’re getting paid and it’s consensual, it’s a valid career. I know this is a taboo topic, and seems contradictory to the feminist moment on the surface, but there’s some really cool history here! 🙂 In the past, brothel owners, who wouldn’t have otherwise had access to their own money, used their income for political lobbying to obtain rights & personhood. They became some of the wealthiest people in their communities, and donated to things like fire departments, churches, and schools to gain political favor. This engagement helped us secure the right to vote, and has made a big impact on gender and racial inequalities throughout history. Their income allowed them to do this. It’s not an easy job, and comes with a lot of risks, for sure! But shaming women for being escorts is a narrative that’s been pushed for centuries - because unsuccessful men were intimidated by them, so they shamed them for it. I’m going to leave a comment thread under this with the names of women whose stories are worth reading. 🙂 if yall know of any others, please share them too! Let’s say their names, and take a moment to acknowledge the women who decided to use what little power they had to fight for all of us ♥️
