DID YOU KNOW: There are about 900 bird species in South Africa. The Garden Route and Klein Karoo hosts more than 450 species of birds - over half of South Africa’s bird species. 🦅 I spent a few days on the Garden Route exploring and learning about these birds. Something different on my end but one exciting and eye opening experience.🥰 Day 1 started at Garden Route Botanical Gardens. This experience provided a broad context of nature-based tourism within which avitourism is a niche market. From there we headed over to the Wilderness River Safaris where we had an informative 90minutes boat ride.🥰 We had dinner at Reflections Eco-reserve which has 140 bird species now being recorded on the property. Started day 2 at the lovely In Toto Retreat before heading to the Woodborne Marsh in Knysna. We then headed over to SANParks Garden of Eden which is one of the most lush and beautiful parts of the Knysna forest and definitely a must-see when visiting the Garden Route. Kwendalo was our next stop where we checked out the bird hide development and had all vegetarian meal at their Green Café. 🥬 Ended our bird tour for the day at Natures Valley Trust and beach before we headed over to Tenikwa Nature Lodge for an overnight stay.🥰 Day 3 was my personal favourite. Spent the morning at the Tenikwa wildlife and rehabilitation centre. It provides rehabilitation facilities for injured and abandoned wildlife from the Garden Route. The work they do for birds and other animals is so important and heartwarming!❤️ Ended my trip by conquering a fear on the Knysna Zipline at Kranshoek. I think I was trying to reach out for the birds in the sky🦅😂 Click on the link on my bio for more information and have a look at my highlights with all the places visited as well as the links on the BirdLife website!🕊️ #tourism #travel #tourist #travelphotography #nature #vacation #trendingaudio #trending #foryou #foryourpage #explore #SAMA28 #fyp
