Just sit quietly near the edge. Don't call him. Have a treat hidden to give him if he comes on the grass. Don't make a big deal if he does. Just calm, quiet reinforcement. Mastiffs are very sensitive

I would just sit on the grass and put a blanket down and if you sit there long enough, he’ll probably come over

This particular breed of mastiff bonds with their owners and immediate circle at a very young age. He is going to have to overcome a lot. Give him some time and room. Cheers!

You're gonna have to use treats & start a lot closer to the patio so he only has to step off with his front paws at first. Make a big fuss when he takes the treat. Then gradually move back each time.

we adopted a 5 year mastiff. No life experiences. It was fun to introduce him to life. We got to have him for 5 years before cancer got him.

Try placing some stepping stones for a pathway for him to cross the grass. He will adjust slowly over time. Seeing you and your husband in the grass and treats will help, too. You can do it, Rambo. 💛
