@powers_plants: Late winter early spring is the best time to prune boxwoods. And yes, you can rejuvenate a boxwood shrub by cutting down into the dead zone. As long as there’s lots of sun in that area within about a year that shrub will have lots of new growth on the inside. if your boxwoods are not looking healthy, you need to call an arborist to come evaluate them for a disease. There are treatments for plenty of boxwood diseases and I’ve seen many clients have their boxwoods bounced back beautifully. However, there is a boxwood disease called boxwood blight that is terminal and will kill your plant and there is no cure for it. I am a Garden Coach located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. I do on-site sessions right in your garden if you live in the Chicagoland area. Click the link in my bio to learn more about which suburbs I travel to. I also do virtual sessions for people that don’t live close to me. I have helped gardeners all over the United States and Canada, with all experience levels, improve their knowledge and skills to achieve the garden of their dreams and do it with their own two hands. From designing your beds to plant selection and pruning, flowers to vegetables, book a session with me on my website at PowersPlants.com. There are lots of people trying to get appointments with me. My calendar opens up new appointments every week so check back on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for new appointments. What about yews that have nothing on the front. Only top. I’m ready to rip them out at my daughter’s new (old) house. Lots of bright shade. And replace w boxwood, although I’m worried about disease. My dad’s boxwood hedge got a disease.

Hello and happy Sunday! I have a Rose of Sharon and the tops are all dead from the winter and last year. Can I prune them way down now? I’m in Lake County Illinois.

The boxwoods I planted last year are 95% yellow… too much sun maybe. Are they a lost cause at this point?

I have mine in planters and looked great in my garage over winter, I moved them outside and they did well till a warmer day came. Could the sunshine burned the leaves? Will it come back?

I’m pretty sure one of my boxwoods are dying. It’s yellowing in various spots and seems to be spreading. An issue I’ve noticed since last year. I fertilized it and everything? Can she be saved 😭

My neighbors all tease me for hand clipping my boxwoods. I said I don’t even own hedge clippers. Hand clippers are much easier to control what you’re doing.

What do you do if you think your boxwoods have a disease? Some of the leaves on top are turning white.

This was a great explanation, but can you explain how your hairstyle works? Are you wearing a visor and style your hair over the top of it or is that just the bill of a hat with a strap around your head?
