I resonate with this on such a deep level. My biggest struggle with this is how to balance this concept with a someone whom you don’t well know well enough to establish what emotional safety they can hold. How to know how vulnerable to get and at what pace? You notice communication withholding and when it’s called out, take accountability but then the other shuts down without attempting a reconnection repair? How do you handle that?

I’ve listened to this like 5 times now. My wife and I have been having this issue in the past 6 months. I suck at tone. She struggles with communicating tough stuff because she hates confrontation. My tone creates that confrontation even though my intentions are not to create confrontation. Ugh. Thank you for this.
