⬇️ PART 2 DOUBLE TONGUE ⬇️ This week’s #excerpt is featuring one of the more overlooked and challenging moments in Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro Overture (there are so many 😅). These sudden dynamic changes are quite difficult to do during a double tongue, along with the running scales and duration we aim to maintain the articulation consistency! . 🎶 This is the second installment of a multi part series detailing the steps I take in teaching double tongue. Once we’ve established the back articulation, we move onto what I call “the handoff” between these two articulation points. Pronouncing the word “ticket”, but pausing and holding the second syllable “tic” and keeping the air pressure going, then “ket” accordingly. The two things I prioritize the most are a clean and perfectly matching initiation of each articulation (front/back) and a long legato connection note to note. You may find intonation drops or that you get a strange droop just before the back articulation, this likely means your vowel is too open (tahkah or tuhkuh), think “teekee” instead.
