That's cool, but we are not checking my intelligence, but my character's. This method relies too much on the player being able to move inside Wikipedia

At our table: if you have an idea I think is beyond/out of your character’s field, DM can allow a flat d20 roll. If less than their Int Score, the character has the idea

I feel like this is the same level of forcing players to act out verbal checks on deception. It’s not as bad but very close.

cool idea, seems like it would slow the game down and break any sort of immersion
For me I think the only time i’d use this is if I want to allow the players to search books to learn spells or information, It could add a bit of “realism” to the game maybe? Like they actually have

This takes the entire fun out of rolling, it also doesn't allow for critical successes or fails, which ultimately makes for better storytelling

What a great way to ignore all the other people at the table and waste time on Wikipedia skimming over the links! I could see if I bleed punching the wall for my strength check.

Did you know there are thousands of TTRPGs out there? If you don’t want to play D&D you don’t have to!

Yes. Let's bring everything to a screeching halt as one person uses their phone. What kind of idea is this?

nathanielmosher :
I genuinely think this idea is a bad one for the vast majority of tables. It commits the cardinal sin of requiring actual skill for a fictional skill check, it takes significantly longer than rolling1

this is a great idea, it's out of the ordinary, it's thinking outside the box.
just because you don't agree with an idea doesn't make it a bad idea, some of yall obviously don't have an open mind!!

player skill shouldn't determine character skill, also great waste of time and making everyone else suffer
