Future proofing PSU’s is exactly where these Reddit stories of cables melting and pcs blowing up come from. If after 3 years you’re changing gpu, get a new psu

My pc build from 2012 lasted me a long time I did GPU and SSD around 2016 and sold it in 2020 and it's still being used mostly for fortnite now though 😂

you should always have a psu with more wattage than you need so it can handle spikes and future proofing isnt fool proof but you can increase the likelyness to for your parts to last longer for gaming

Hmmmmm... So I went from a LAPTOP with i3 11th gen and iGPU to a PC with i5 13400f and 4060. Is it a good jump? (btw,it is a pre built,I got it at a good deal so don't spam me cuz I got a 4060).

back in the day you buy bets hardware. next years games are unplayable. now you can run on low 5 years. future proofing is a thing now

future proofing is betting on the fact that new technologies don't change too much and make your current setup obsolete.

I built a high end PC 11 years ago. I’m still doing great and I’m an AI developer. People rely on hardware too much without good software optimization. Depends on what you’re doing.

what do u mean by future proof 1080 only start choking with rtx its pretty much future proofing itself I am not talking about i7700k who last long enough and gtx 660 legend 1660 rx 580 wdy mean by future proof and yeah u can choose supported sockets and see that everyone announced they games on ue 5 and do not buy 8 g gpu its pretty much future proof itself

Pre Unreal Engine 5 and Ai Upscaling instead of Optimization I would agree in future proofing but not anymore tbh, always a new game with no optimization that runs like shit lol

Gotta keep in mind of atx versions. For the Rtx 50 series cards it’s better to have a atx 3.0 or 3.1

Not gonna lie, I shoot for 1.5x to 1.7x my system max load wattage. Mostly cause I don't want my PSU running full throttle every time I game or render.
