@ktvu2: Kīlauea is an active shield volcano in the Hawaiian Islands. It is located along the southeastern shore of Hawaii Island. The volcano is between 210,000 and 280,000 years old and grew above sea level about 100,000 years ago. The 15th episode of Kilauea’s Halema’uma’u eruption began on Tuesday afternoon, March 25, 2025. According to USGS, the eruption began at approximately 12:04 p.m. with the onset of vigorous overflows from the north vent. As of Wednesday, March 26, cyclic lava splatter and flows followed by the onset of the sustained high fountains from the north and south vents were reported. At about 10:20 a.m. fountains were observed to be up to 600-ft. high. The 15th episode fountaining was preceded by over 100 cycles of lava rise and fall, vent overflows, and spatter fountains in the north vent. (Source: Island News)
