She saw the story on the news about how he'd been held captive since he was in fourth grade by his father and step-mom in their Waterbury, Connecticut home. Valerand says she gave up full custody of her son, when he was a baby, to her ex-husband. Her son is now 32 years old. Police say he set fire to his home earlier this month in order to finally get his freedom. When firefighters rescued him, he was extremely emaciated, weighing just 69 pounds.
