i wrote a short story w/o quotations as a creative writing exercise and also as a way to challenge my reader (my 11th grade lit teacher lol) but i won the class competition for best story so 🤷♀️

I’ve only read a single book that it made sense for, John Hersey’s The Child Buyer, it’s just dialogue of judges and it isn’t annoying punctuation

i have two words for you. Cormac McCarthy. lol. I was bamboozled. my mom forgot to warn me. from what I remember he felt it made the pages too cluttered.

Intermezzo was horrible. Do NOT read it. I got over the no quotes quickly. It was more that there was literally no character development 1/2 way through the book. She’s supposed to be a good writer?

honestly, i think that made "the road" by cormac mccarthy better. it added such an unsettling, emotionally muted tone that somehow made the horror of the story all the more stark
