@c5news: A man was killed by a prisoner on the same day he was let out early due to overcrowding, 5 News can reveal. Lewis Bell, 26, was stabbed to death following a drugs feud at a crack den in Stockton on September 18, 2024. One of his killers, Liam Matthews, had been released from HMP Holme House at about 10am that same morning. Matthews was standing trial at Teesside Magistrates’ Court, alongside Ashton White who has also been found guilty of manslaughter and Shaun McCloud who was found guilty of murder. The Government told 5 News, prisons were 'days from collapse' at the time and inmates needed to be released early.
