Boosting biodiversity in the garden helps to naturally manage pest levels and improve pollination rates, overall giving us a better crop and making gardening a more enjoyable experience. We recently dug a pond in our veg patch. We did the hard work with a digger and finished it by hand, making sure there’s a beach for wildlife to easily climb in and out, and a shelf around 2 of the edges for plants. I’m adding pond plants from Sarah Raven to help encourage as much wildlife as possible: water mint, water forget me not, sedges, devils bit scabious and a couple of water lilies. I’ve also added some oxygenating plants to keep the pond healthy, and will be installing a solar powered water feature soon! I’m so excited to see how this new pond benefits the vegetable garden and wildlife within it. #gyo #growyourown #growyourownfood #homestead #smallholding #garden #lovegardening #kitchengarden #veggarden #plants #igrewthis #ediblegarden #gardendesign #pond
