Hi!! My horse just went through this- I know you may not be looking for advice but Sertraline really helped my horse! He was incredibly sleep deprived and anxious and 2 weeks later he is so happy.

I know it sounds quite far fetched, but have you tried leaving a radio on for him? My cousins horse was the same, she accidently left the radio on in the yard and he just zonked out with it on.

Poor bub. As a totally not horse person I would be doing the dumbest things like bringing him a silk sleep mask, a sound machine and a bucket of chamomile tea. Hah, sorry for no real advice.

A horse I knew had diagnosed narcolepsy stemming from the loss of a pasture mate and his episodes looked EXACTLY like this. He was put on imipramine and it helped until he felt better mentally

No indoor stalls available? I had an OTTB that had issues similar to this and while I love 24/7 turnout - the prey animal instinct was too strong. Felt like he had to be “ready to go”

My horse has done this occasionally but ever since I started him on camelina oil he’s much less anxious and I haven’t seen him doing it since. I also feed mag, but I don’t think it helped his sleeping

Have you done a pain medication treatment trial? With an anti-inflammatory. Just since you are doing so much body work but if it’s discomfort then a general pain medication will rule it in or out.

guessing no bigger turn out? usually horses feel safe to nap when another horse is keeping watch. Or at this point heavier sedation to force him to sleep for a bit. like this seems life or death

I'm going through the exact same with my mate right now!! It's so worrying and confusing. I feel so defeated with everything I've tried to far! Next steps are X-rays with vets :( keep trying you guys

We used to have a horse who wouldn’t lie down on shavings, only a big straw bed. Could be worth trying? Hope you find an answer x

Been down the long road also. We are at scoping for ulcers once again. (Clean scope a couple years ago). Hoping it’s not that, but still trying to figure ours out also. ♥️
