In 1999 when Coldplay was working on their debut album, Parachutes. Chris Martin wrote the song as an apology to the rest of the band, particularly to drummer Will Champion. At the time, Martin was going through a phase of extreme perfectionism and had become a very controlling leader within the group. His attitude created tensions among the band members, and at one point, he even temporarily fired Champion. However, he quickly realized his mistake and reinstated him shortly after. It was in this context that Trouble was born, with its melancholic melody and lyrics like "I never meant to cause you trouble, I never meant to do you harm."
