cal has a name for sure but in terms of prestige, ucsd isnt that far behind. if ur thinking premed, ucsd is seriously the best place to be. also my bf is pre med at berkeley and grade deflation is 😬

i understand ur trying to go to med school for biochem but at the end of the day when u go to compete for jobs its so incredibly common for employers to go for berkeley first. ofc prestige isnt everything but its definitely big. in todays society as unfortunate as it is connections are quite literally everything and having those connections is what is going to land you jobs and internships. the network u make at berkeley is phenomenal compared to sd. im from socal and am abt 7 hrs away 1/

Depends on your FAFSA/finance. Biochem degree doesn’t pay much and I assume you’re planning to become a doctor. So you know, just save as much as you can

go to berkeley, uc socially dead is real. uc berkeley is super prestigious and you will be sm happier there. im at berkeley and love it here. my friends at ucsd hate it there.

Berk person here — ppl for the most oart are nice! I think everyone here seems like an overachiever which gives away the vibe that theyre mean, but in reality makes you want to do more

ucsd for premed is imo the best uc. i’m a cs major and the people ik doing premed stuff collect research and internships like infinity stones. also the med school being here is a huge plus.

Come to berkeley! I went with the same fears; was worried about mean people and being far but it’s only a 40 min flight from socal, and so many kind and wonderful people r in the same boat

ucsd is definitely as prestigious as berkeley for bio majors, especially if you want to do biomed research since we have a medical school. it's also a lot easier to get research positions here

Ucsd is actually doing really well rn, it may not be as “prestigious” but it is ranked as high/higher than many prestigious schools. The environment is also very nice :)

I’ve stayed at a program at uc Berkeley a few summers ago and I can tell u straight up that the school is amazing for its education but not as safe around the area. UCSD sounds like a great option :)

I had the same trouble choosing between UCSD which was my kinda dream school and Berkeley! After touring both schools I fell in love with the school spirit and energy that Berkeley has.

You can’t go wrong with either choice. UCSD is excellent STEM school and their biochemistry department is just as good as Berkeley’s. It also has a medical school which Berkeley does not.
