Personally think the checkered is too trendy. Look into a square sand dune cream mix finish ceramic tile or something similar. I think that will give you a timeless feel

I vote no on the checkers, not necessarily bc it’s trendy but bc it doesn’t look quite right since your cabinets don’t go up to the ceiling. It looks too disjointed
