@theislanddrum: Ketupat is basically rice wrapped in coconut palm leaves. There are at least 5 different types, but I recently found these local women making the triangular shaped Ketupat Palas. Which in my eyes is an art form. What I later learned is that there are 'genders' for Ketupat Palas. The tightly packed triangles that are tied at the end are Ketupat Palas Jantan (male), and the ones that look a bit like a triangle on a stick are Ketupat Palas Betina (female). What I also learned from this accidental meet-n-greet is that 'some' coconut palm leaves fold out like an accordian! This new knowledge has had me looking much closer at palm leaves trying to find those special leaves. 🔎 Ketupat are especially popular during Ramadan and Hari Raya. The flavorful rice packets are great with curries or Rendang or eaten straight from the packets. How about you?
