@digital_rob: Why AI Will Never Replace Accountants People who don’t do accounting love to talk about how AI will replace accountants someday because they’re focused on the tasks that accountants perform instead of the role that accountants have. They look at tasks like data entry, or account reconciliation, or pivot tables, or financial statement prep, or preparing metrics, and they say “AI is gonna be able to do that you’re gonna lose your job.” Rather than looking at the role that we perform, which is the analysis, interpretation and communication of financial information. As a matter of fact, we desperately want AI to improve doing those tasks so that we can focus more on our role, which has a lot more value. Even if you pretend that someday AI magically improves and gets better to where it can do all those tasks flawlessly, which by the way, it never will, but let’s just pretend that it will, someday do those tasks then that means that the only thing that the business owners, investors, and stakeholders need to do at that point is measure their growth and track their progress and measure risk and decide on the next investment. And those types of things are literally the analysis, interpretation, and communication of financial information, which means they either are accountants already, or they became accountants in the process.
