You gotta put your clutch on. There is no tension to pull your transmission onto the actual drive gear meaning that shift rod is just sitting there spinning them

Spin your sprocket to the front side of your bike when you put it in first gear, I have to spin my wheel when I put my bike in gear but I know you don’t have your chain on.
