“We had no clue how many parents and children there were out there. Then in the first six months we already had 200 children on our books. We'd have parents walking six, seven hours to reach the center. So that's how it expanded and the team is incredibly busy seeing around a thousand children a month in 27 centers around Western Uganda.” Watch the film on our website to see the inspiring work Kyaninga Child Development Centre is doing to support children with disabilities and help end the stigma they and their families face in Uganda. Link in bio, or comments below. Before their son Sidney, Steve and Asha Williams knew very little about the world of disability. Through him, they saw the stigma, misinformation, and isolation that children with disabilities and their families face in Uganda. Their search for support became the beginning of Kyaninga Child Development Centre. As KCDC’s school and therapy programs grew, families kept asking for another urgent form of support: wheelchairs and mobility tools. So Steve and the KCDC team began developing rugged, off-road bamboo wheelchairs for rural Ugandan terrain. Through Kyaninga Mobility, local communities grow bamboo, and the team uses it to manufacture wheelchairs, create jobs, and offer a more sustainable alternative to traditional materials. For children with disabilities, a wheelchair opens the door to everyday childhood: moving freely, playing sports, joining in, and feeling part of their community. #KymRapierFoundation #LoveBoldBeliefAction #LearningDisabilityWeek #LDWeek2026 #DoYouSeeMe
