I loved when you could get good A to B cars for that price. That reality is slipping away. The realistic budget for a solid used care is around 12k in 2025. And you still need to pick the right car.

Comment section is proof that ppl will make any excuse to not put in the work. It’s easy to stay broke. I had a 2007 Toyota Camry for 5 years I paid $5000 for and had basically no issues.

I agree with the sentiment, but saying “all cars require maintenance” is a gross generalization. Plenty of times it’s worth it to pay more for a reliable vehicle like a Corolla vs a “great deal” Jetta

I bought my kids a 2009 Accord for $5k in 2019. I’ve done regular maintenance on it, and we have put on over 50k miles with no issues. It isn’t pretty, but gets from A to B.

If you buy a $5,000 beater, drive it for 2 years, you trade value is about $500. Nowhere near the $5,000 you paid.
