What's missing from modern trek is family. These crews were found family. Not the forced kind where the plot demands it. These were coworkers who grew to love each other.

Spot on, in TNG when everyone is disappearing and Beverley is the only one who realises, Picard completely takes her word for it, I think especially as a woman that is s big deal

like when Guinan knew something was off in "Yesterday's Enterprise" and Picard immediately took it seriously.

I HATE, HATE the miscommunication trope and the not believing trope, as someone who has been treated this way a lot in their life, and I love Star Trek for this, the camaraderie and absolute trust the

The treatment of Wes is the exception, and is why his treatment feels especially egregious, he’s singled out despite always being right, and dismissed with prejudice.

And the really impressive thing is, Keiko isn't Starfleet, she's not a fellow officer, she hasn't served with people; she's O'Brien's wife, and a schoolteacher, and still she's believed.

Picard is the GOAT for this. Dr Crusher was like “half of the crew have disappeared from reality, including memories of them”. And Picard was like, we better look into this asap.

The other thing is they’ve all run into such weird scenarios that O’Brien and Bashir being alive is not the most far-fetched thing they’ve come across

There are definitely plots hinging on people not being believed, but importantly the characters are all experts in something. And it used to be a given that we believe experts on things in their field

growing up as an unrecognised autistic child and being constantly gaslit and undermined particularly by my mother this makes so much sense why I have always loved these shows.

I think the inverse of that might also be true. on those episodes where someone is not believed for an extended period of time, there tends to be consequences for the people not willing to believe.

I remember watching the episode Deanna gets pregnant and Riker & Picard are talking about what to do before Riker stops the whole conversation and says it’s whatever Deanna decides.

I grew up loving these shows and unfortunately believing the world was wanting to head towards that future. Any idea what order to recommend a new watcher go in? I would like TNG onwards but not sure

Great point, and it's interesting that the writers weren't happy with this. One principle of that Star Trek era was that interpersonal conflict (i.e. drama) wasn't allowed to be the plot.

Tied into this idea of everyone being trusted is the counter point that no one lies. Everyone works hard, tries their best and acts with integrity.
