SSRIs are first line and best when combined with therapy. So the recommendation checks out. If you don’t want meds for anxiety, go to a therapist, not your doctor.

sounds reasonable to prescribe something to lessen your anxiety while you spend who knows how long working your way through your problems with a psychiatrist who can further adjust medications if need
