Honestly I believe it’s a social turning. 😉 we use it to state we mean what we we are saying but understand it’s from our bias and experience/opinion. However I have seen it be used sarcastically too

I've caught myself using it a lot too. Not just recently, I've done it for quite a while. And despite people's theories that only liars use this phrasing... I've never used it to deceive anyone.

Also the word LIKE is wayyy overused. But yeah when someone prefaces with "to be honest" it forces me to think they're admitting they usually lie.
