![Welcome back to another video with the Detroit Science Guy. In Russia, August 2nd, 2025 the Krasheninnikov volcano erupted. A four mile high ash plume was thrust into the atmosphere, and there was no immediate threat. Prior to this event, it has been at least 4 centuries since the last known eruption of the Krasheninnikov in 1650 (32,000 ft. ash plume maximum), according to the Kamchatkan Volcanic Eruption Response Team (KVERT) report. This is a Caldera volcano or a Super volcano with Summit Craters. This Super Volcano is composed of two stratovolcanoes. It has an elevation of 5,958 ft. The latitude is 54.596°N and its longitude 160.27°E. Rhyolite to andesite, and basalt are the types of magmas of this volcano. Magma chambers beneath the Krasheninnikov cause eruptions to be highly explosive. This volcano and others globally are active throughout the month of August. A massive 8.8 earthquake struck off the coast of Russia July 30, 2025 just before this event. Some scientists believe that the nearby earthquake may have triggered or facilitated activity of the Krasheninnikov. Video Credits: NBC News. (2025, August 4).
