Atomic structure includes three major subatomic particles: protons, neutrons, and electrons. Protons carry a positive charge and are present inside the nucleus, neutrons have no charge, while electrons carry a negative charge and revolve around the nucleus. The arrangement of these particles determines the atomic number, mass number, and chemical properties of an element. Understanding atomic structure also helps students learn important topics such as chemical bonding, periodic table trends, isotopes, ions, and chemical reactions. The discoveries related to atomic structure opened the doors to modern scientific advancements. Today, atomic theory is used in chemistry, medicine, electricity, nuclear energy, electronics, and many other fields. From medical imaging and cancer treatment to the development of modern technology, atomic discoveries continue to play a vital role in improving human life.
