This is not thatch. Thatch is in the soil. This debris sits on top of the soil. Power raking is still good, but this is not thatch.

Thatch doesn’t keep moisture away from soil, acting as a mulch it holds moisture in and protects roots in summer and winter. Every lawn need a thatch layer. Not too much, but enough to keep the soil covered.

not true in my area in Texas I NEED the clippings to create a barrier to allow water down but shield it from the sun. never had mold or mildew problems as it gets way to hot
