Portuguese and Russian have very similar phonemes, so it helps a lot to speak both languages.

I am sorry but this is very wrong. Some sounds may have similarities but any Latin language is more similar to Portuguese than Russian (including French)

Portuguese people can understand other Latin languages from French to Romanian. The only similar thing with Russian is phonetics for a foreign ear but Portuguese cannot understand any Russian at all.

to my ears portuguese from portugal sounds more like polish and russian sounds more like brazilian portuguese, russian has pretty open vowels, and the pacing too it’s not that similar to portuguese portuguese in my opinion, since portuguese pt pronounces vowels very tightly and eats them up a lot, making a consonant soup sometimes

Heard it more than once. A lot of people think they’re listening Russian when I was speaking portuguesa. Has to do with the way we pronounce the words and sounds we make.
