@patrickokra: The trick to painting skies is to not overcook the gradient! Skies usually get darker and bluer from the horizon up, but we need to realize how little of the sky actually fits into our painting, and need to avoid making too drastic of a sky gradient! When painting skies, it can be helpful to also think of degrees- 0° is at the horizon, 90° would be above your head. How many degrees of the sky do you really see?
