@sophiemorrisofficial: I spotted these McCaghey’s turkey burgers in Tesco and the label caught my eye—“The gold standard in turkey products.” But when I flipped over the pack, it told a very different story. Only 75% turkey, and the rest? Sugar, dextrose, stabilisers, preservatives… a whole load of additives for something that could be so simple. It’s another one of those cases where you think you’re buying something fairly simple - turkey mince with perhaps some seasonings - but it turns out to be far more processed than expected. If you take a look at the same brand’s turkey mince, it’s 100% turkey breast— Just shape it into burgers with some spices/seasoning and you’ve got a much better option with none of the unnecessary additives. This is why checking the ingredients is so important—Just because something looks healthy or calls itself premium doesn’t mean it actually is. Are you surprised by this? I’d love to hear your thoughts ❤️ #sophiesswaps #cleverswaps #readlabels #ultraprocessedfoods
that's incredible 😳 I love your content and it has made me more conscious to read the back of labels and not just the marketing claims on the front 🙏

What’s the issue with the additives? You just kind of scan through them there with no real context? Have you information to show the quantity of these additives individually are harmful?

a little unfair, alot of those ingredients more expensive than the turkey so not added to make production cheaper. added because the customer demands shelf life & the product has to taste the same on

I make that (net to customer): producer swaps out ~30c worth of meat per burger, for <5c worth of water, crumbs and dust, and then charges nearly 20c more per resulting frankenburger. This is peak UPF
