It says “The story leading to tears of the kingdom” and we haven’t seen any new characters so far so hopefully it is just a prequel and at the very end we see the exact same ending that was in totk

if they add link and the new sages, i feel like it will be in a way where we have time jumps. one mission is zelda in the past, the next is link and the sages in the present. i could see that working for sure!

It could be a common story with non canonical characters. So like the story and cut scenes could not include link but link is still playable in gameplay portions
