I dated one for 2 years and it doesn’t matter what tone you use or how you say it they shutdown. You learn not to say anything about anything they do even if it bothers you. Nobody is worth this

Silent treatment after blamshifting, gaslighting, "don't want to talk about it now" which... we've nvr ever came back to talk about "it" whatever it is. Learning to be emotionless. In every thing.

Impossible to have a disagreement that has repair or closure. They also cant get through an argument without insulting which is hilarious because they can’t handle any criticism themselves!

My DA thinks we are fighting when I express myself, I’ve learned to have softer communication but it’s hell.

Why does "intent" seem to play such a big part of their defensiveness and is woven throughout their "apologies?"

I nearly lost myself for good trying to work around my dismissive avoidant ex to help him heal. Never again, the DA are the 1st cousin of the narcissist. Far too many similarities, just don’t bother.

What I want to know how come they can for example handle it at work from their boss but at home it’s a different story.. so on some level they know how it would be appropriate to react?

No, thanks. You can't have a relationship with someone like this, it's impossible. As you said even when we communicated it in a nicest way possible, they'll get really defensive and blame shifting on

Why vilify DAs? Clearly there’s a lot of trauma they carry due to the lack of love and connection received growing up. They learnt to survive by shutting down and disconnecting from their emotions

20 yrs married to a severe DA. BEWARE. if you push back in marriage (where you can't get away), they turn into nightmares. like covert narcissists. Trapped in abusive hell now. 😭

I’m FA & this is accurate. Regardless of attachment style, nobody really enjoys being criticized. We all need to learn how to communicate needs in a “non-critical” way. 💯
