7: Sju or Syv, 20: Tjue or Tyve. Depends on where you from and your age😅

To be fair, SYV is Danish. We had to adopt their way of saying it to please them during the time we where under Danish rule.

7 only sounds like 20 if you can't distinguish between the Sj-sound and the Kj-sound

Syv is originally Danish. We also have two words for 20: tjue eller tyve (tyve is also Danish). Stems from the time we were in a union with Denmark (between 1537 and 1814)

Det stopper ikke der, for alle tosifrede tall kan sies på to måter. Dermed kan enkelte tall som f.eks 27 ha mange varianter: tjuesju, tjuesyv, syvogtjue, sjuogtjue, syvogtyve. 😱

Very normal to confuse those two, even amongst native Norwegians. Though maybe not in a countdown setting given the context.

We've got so many dialects! 😇
I think when I counted them all up some time ago, I concluded there's about 10 ways to pronounce 'I' (jeg/eg) in Norwegian. I pity the foreigners trying to learn it all

its because Norway has two standards, nynorsk(from norwegian) and bokmål(from danish), sju/tju(gle is the typical norwegian form, and syv/tyve are typical danish-influence forms.
