He stated, “I offered my services to the fourth Matrix, and they didn’t respond well to that.” Fishburne explained that his return would depend on “the circumstances, who was involved, how well the script has been written, if they offer me [a part].” He also admitted, “For whatever reason, that didn’t happen.” Despite his absence, actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II took on a new version of Morpheus in the 2021 film.
