Just thought, does he have other horses around him? He could be worried to lay down because he feels vulnerable as another horse would usually stand watch for danger? 🤍

Old horsemanship would say if you can fall to your knees with no concussion the bed is deep enough for an old horse. I would be very hesitant to drop to my knees on that bed, harder with shavings but our shavings beds are a good foot deep

MAKE THE BED BIGGER!! Make it more comfortable. More bedding!! One wheel barrel full of loose bedding isn’t enough. MORE BEDDING!! How hard can that be.
