the outlet being upside down has nothing to do with the switch. an outlet has to be wired to the switch in order for the switch to turn it on or off.

The builders did you a visual favor with the upside down install. Smart!

Not always true. We have 2 outlets on switches and they are not upside down. Wonder if that was an older home trend maybe?

That’s the same way in my house every room in my house has one outlet that is controlled by the light switch. So she is right and all these people saying she is wrong…

Not true at all. The outlet has to be wired to be controlled by the light switch. The outlet can be in any position

The outlet is wired so the switch. Upside down has nothing to do with it. That is typically for commercial builds

Often the top outlet on a bedroom duplex is wired to a switch. The bottom one is usually still constant power. The upside-down duplex is more of a safety thing and unrelated to the switch wiring!

Not going to be true universally. Also it should be split so that one is switched and the other constant.

By code, they are supposed to be the way that your boyfriend told you these other people who are commenting those actually are not done to code so you are correct

This isn't true. Your outlet has to be wired to a wall switch

To everyone screaming at you, some builders will do this to make the outlet easy to find. While not always true, if you find annipside down one it’s probably connected to the switch
