@caninefriendsuk: Dog separation anxiety training! Where did I go wrong? 🤔 In order of appearance in video: 1. Putting coat on 2. Picking up keys. Explanation: We call this a pre-departure cue. This any action or routine that a dog learns to associate with their person leaving. We want to strip these out of training when we’re first starting while we work on desensitisation to the items separately 3. Dog isn’t relaxed 4. Not done enough work to desensitise the leaving routine 5. Didn’t do any warm ups Explanation: Luna is by the front door wanting to run out the door with me (disclaimer, I had treats in my pocket to get her to do this because she doesn’t come to the door anymore 😂). If your dog is doing this it means you haven’t done enough preparation in the exercise door is a bore to fully desensitise the leaving routine. By the time you’re actually heading out and counting the clock, your dog should be fully relaxed somewhere else. Not following you, alert or blocking the door.
