@hedgerow_healing: 🌼 DANDELIONS 🌼 A flower that carpets gardens, fields, banks and hedgerows every spring, and one that many usually view as a 'pesky weed' but dandelions are far from that. Not only are they a great source of food for early-spring pollinators, but medicinally they have multiple uses and have been used by herbalists, healers, and practitioners of medicine for many years. In fact there are accounts of medieval monks storing dandelions specifically for use as a medicine. The leaves can make great additions to spring wild salads, or can be made into a tea to help the function of the kidneys and the liver. The leaves are a renowned diuretic, (which means they make you urinate) and have been used to help treat all manner of ailments, as well as reducing bloating and aiding digestion. The flowers can also be eaten and are rich in antioxidants, making them a perfect wild-food to use in recipes such as wines, cakes, tea, and more. The salve from dandelion flowers is fantastic for helping ease muscle soreness and dry skin, and in some cases can be a good remedy for arthritis. Dandelions are steeped in Folklore, with more tales than I can convert in a 1 minute video! Not only are they believed to predict the weather, and are nicknamed 🌼Fairy Clocks 🌼 specifically for this reason, but they can also be used to make wishes. In some places, blowing all the seeds off a dandelion head means your wish will come true. While in others it means you will find true love.
