I don’t think he’s cain, i think he’s death. He knows him from Mexico, out west, and all over. Everywhere John has been, death and destruction has followed suit. As Arthur gets closer to death, the painting of the man in the cabin gets more complete. In the final act of rdr2 if you visit the cabin, he can be seen in the mirror, following Arthur. Watching.
