@bengleason23: This was one of those runs that made me realize the work is actually paying off. I've been following a pretty intense marathon training plan for 6 weeks now that includes one long run, two recovery runs, and two speed-focused runs. It's been a chaotic 6 weeks but l've stayed consistent and focused hard staying healthy. Here's what's made the biggest difference: 1. Keep easy runs easy: I've made sure to resist ever running hard on my lighter days. Those runs aren't about improving my distance or speed, they're just maintenance miles on the legs and lungs. 2. Long runs every weekend: I've been slowly building pace and distance each weekend with my long runs. These are the cornerstones of marathon training. 3. Structured intensity: I run hard twice a week-one tempo, one interval run. These are the times to push myself and try to improve each week. 4. Strength and mobility: I haven't done as much plyometrics as l've wanted, but I almost never miss a solid, intentional stretching session after a run. It's kept me injury free the entire time. 5. Fueling and recovery: Water and food is always on my mind. I'm often going out of my way to find extra calories and hydration each day and it's allowed me to continue pushing myself each week. There's no shortcuts. No magic plan. No quick fix. Just a plan, consistency and taking care of my body. If you're in a training block, stick with it and enjoy the process. The progress will begin to show when you stop looking for it.
