I had to use my 2wks of PTO & 3 sick for my son's spine surgery. Unpaid for the next month after he had complications (incomplete paraplegia, spinal infection).

My last job took away two weeks of all employee vacation time because we had too much time built up but weren't using it. they didn't pay us for it either. I should mention the reason we weren't taking it was because we were so shorthanded and busy. but anytime we requested time off we were denied because it was too busy.

I have the opposite problem. 39 days/year PTO + 3 months paternity leave plus 240 hours carryover. most is use or lose at this point.

Blessed to work for a company that gives employees unlimited sick days for personal or family use. I should preface that the parent company is based in France.
