@ohmariong: #OnThisDay 90 years ago, on April 8, 1935, Hachiko, the loyal Akita dog, crossed the rainbow bridge. The date has come to be recognized as Hachiko Day When I visited Japan a year ago, I got to see this statue up close. Unlike the one caught in the mayhem of the tourist crowd in Shibuya, here, Hachiko is shown reunited in unmistakable joy and peace with his human, Professor Hidesaburo Ueno in the very campus where he taught, the College of Agriculture in the University of Tokyo. And I can't help but think of my own beloved Poochie who left for dog heaven just a day ago. When I opened our gate earlier, there was no more sound of his barking to welcome my arrival, and where his kennel once stood, was now but an empty space. There were pangs of sadness but I comforted myself with the thought —dogs do really teach us to appreciate life in ways words often cannot capture. 💗 #april8 #hachikoday #dogheaven #wheninjapan #universityoftokyo
