This book is wild, especially when you hit the Sheryl Sandberg airplane bed part. I also highly recommend Uncanny Valley, which is the best book in this genre I’ve ever read.

If you would've actually finished the book you would've gotten to the chapter where she does take accountability, says she has failed and when she does file a complaint, she gets fired.

As someone who was working at State Department when the carrot won (again), I can relate to people wanting to quit their jobs but have though specific situations that would not allow them. Are all of them careless? Maybe. Maybe not to the families they’re providing for, taking care of, etc. it’s easy to judge from the outside. Quitting a “toxic” job can also be a privilege not everyone can afford.

As a former corporate tech worker, it’s easy to be brainwashed. You’re lied to about your impact and the effects of your work. I’m not saying she’s perfect, but she explained many times her reasons for staying were related to her health, family, & citizenship status. Power dynamics were at play. In terms of priority, blame should be directed first towards the billionaires who did nothing when she raised alarm bells, & who have no moral compass in their pursuit of wealth, even when peoples’ lives are at stake.

Yes!!! She’s got not one smidge of self awarness and it is infutiating. She also doesn’t expose all that much that we don’t already know from pro publica, the guardian, etc.

she wasn't an executive, she was a director, I think she was truely trying to convince executives to do better; I agree that she should have taken more accountability but she is not a c suite person

I was with you until you blamed the workers. People have to make a living and jobs are slim pickings right now. It’s the same with carbon footprint; it’s bullshit. The companies and CEO’s hold the responsibility.
