What if your real event ocd is making you obsess about something from the past that wasn’t bad and now making it seem like a bad thing. That’s where I’m stuck.

this really upsets me because you're saying that people don't remember things exactly how that happened and that is so untrue.

i feel like my ocd warps the real event so much that it almost becomes like a false memory like it’s real but ocd distorts and changes the memory so severely due to the rumination and replaying 😭

No but I do actually have OCD around what I’d say is maybe “false memory”. I will pick a random memory from my childhood but because it is so foggy I will ruminate on what might have actually happened until I think up different worst case scenarios and make myself anxious not knowing which one really happened since the memory is essentially a vague blank space I’m filling with hypotheticals

Can I ask you a question? I have extreme health anxiety about my kids. I will ruminate on those thoughts and seek repetitive validation from others that nothing is wrong. It causes horrible anxiety

To be clear: I am not saying people don’t remember things accurately, I’m just saying our mind is a wild place and OCD CAN skew things

So it’s not the event.. it’s the way ocd is trying to make meaning/make sense of the event.. when there isn’t some big meaning?

I had a therapist who specialized in OCD say that because some of my obsessions were based on actual events, it wasn't really OCD and he couldn't help with them 🫠

Is it normal to feel so terrible about something in the past, always thinking about it and to feel bad every time because you don't apologize (the person doesn't even know that something happened).

Ah thanks! This hits when I commented about passing out. I def struggle with real time ocd in numerous areas of my life, but not sure if there’s any compulsions to it? Would a compulsion be adjusting

How about religous ocd? i can’t even watch a tv show that has a kissing scene in it. I used to know it is a sin in my religion but I didn’t really care and now my ocd screams and HOW CAN YOU?????

How to I bring this up to my therapist? I have suggested numerous times with numerous therapists that it isn’t JUST generalized anxiety, the amount of ruminating I’ll do is not the same as nerves

I have a few overlapping types of OCD. Its debilitating. I’m unmedicated for the first time in over a year because SSRIs keep dulling the other parts of me
