Wire wheel is fine. Grinder is not. Either way it's far easier to just soak in a lye solution for a few days scrub with some steel wool and reseason.

how about we just normalize cleaning cast iron😏. it's really disturbing how ppl don't clean them. I use mine daily.... I hand wash with soap daily, wipe dry then immediately spray with oil. I have zero issues. Usually every 6 weeks I just re-season in oven.

put it in a self cleaning oven works well with very little hand touch up cleaning

Use the self cleaning option in the oven. I do all my cast iron pans in it every few years. Turns out great.

You can 100% use a grinder but use a flap disk or wire wheel.

Just because someone was really bad at it and destroyed that cast iron, it doesn’t mean it cannot be done. It may not be for everyone but if you have medium skills you can polish grind cast iron for a very smooth non stick cast iron finish
