@abcnewsaus: Months after a viral haka was performed in New Zealand parliament, the controversial bill that sparked it has now been defeated. The Treaty Principles bill sought to redefine the Treaty of Waitangi which is New Zealand's founding document. The bill was brought by ACT Party leader David Seymour, who believed the current interpretation of the treaty gave more rights to Māori people than non-Māori New Zealanders. After two years of debate and nationwide protest, the bill was voted down by all but one party. As a Native American, it makes me smile to see Native culture respected in politics. It’s a shame that this will never happen in the USA.

As an Anishinaabe kwe from Turtle Island, this warms my heart. Congratulations to my Māori cousins for standing strong and defending their rights. And thanks to their allies for doing what’s right

The little smile and nod, like he was saying “of course, it’s time to sing together” 😭😭 as an American who feels a lot of stress rn, it’s so good to see a government come together for their people

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable, I am glad that they chose peace.
