I recognized right off that it wasn't the way you would have trimmed it. You would have opened it up more, so debris couldn't get packed down in the hole.

That red glue looks like the cow has a meaty, chunky injury to the hoof. I was alarmed at first but happy to know it wasn’t a horrible injury.
